About the Game
So what's the Town of Salem?
Town of Salem was a panfandom monster sex game that ran from about 2014-2016. This community is an unofficial continuity of that, given blessing by former moderators. It is a 'dressing room' that aims to continue the themes and worldbuilding of that game, but in a more easygoing and freeform environment.
Do I need to have been in the previous game to join here?
Absolutely not. This game is open to all who join. While plot from that previous game is carried over from there, you won't need to know it, just the general premise. You also aren't required to remember what went on in the previous game even if you were there.
So refresh my memory on that premise?
Long story short: you wind up on an odd, European flavored island that has been abandoned by most of its residents and the majority of its residents hiding out in the forest as monsters. Oh, and you'll slowly turn into a monster too. If you want to keep those wild and horrible instincts under control, you have to get laid. And because shit happened, the town is in mild disarray and food is a little hard to come by.
Details and mechanics
So for those who were in the previous game, what's different?
As it's closer to the dressing rooms of old rather than a full game, there's no tracking of things like instincts, point gain, or hard set rules of what you can transform into. The previous game's rules are out there for you to see, but those are more of a guideline. You will still generally lose your powers and have them shifted over to the powers of whatever supernatural creature your character has turned into. You will still have instincts gnawing at you. If you're *already* that type of creature when you come in (and want to stay that way), chances are your power set will slowly morph into something more 'island appropriate' and you will have a slightly more difficult time of hiding you inhuman features if you were capable of that.
Non-con is no longer an emphasis and does not exacerbate instincts. You are free to play it out so long as muns all consent, but the infected are no more compelled to do so than they would with uncontrollable aphrodisiac.
Continuity is still encouraged, so try not to have one entry as a naga and another as a fairy for no explicable reason.
Uh. Instincts? Mechanics?
You can see how the previous game worked here. As this is more of a dressing room, it's a guideline rather than hard rules. Not to say that there aren't hard rules. There won't be any official Calendar, there is no AC and there are no apps. Be reasonable on what your character is carrying (i.e. no large vehicles/Gundams/full house suite of supplies)
What kind of monster can I become?
That is listed here. Sub types are sometimes listed in the comments, so you can use those as a guideline as well. Once again, since this is a musebox and not a game, it's alright to play a bit loosely with some of those subsets. However, deviating too far is not encouraged.
If you want some level of consistency, I encourage you to have a journal entry on your character's page to take note of what they transformed into, the current state of their abilities and transformations, and if they're more or less prone to certain instincts. It can also act as an opt-in or opt-out for more... extreme kinks if you will.
